Photo of young boy in costume

When I acquired the Mr. Rinehart glass negatives they were in rather poor condition, having been in someone's attic or basement for many years. After going through many boxes I found no indication of whom the photographer was. I did know it was a Colorado photographer because there were local Denver newspaper pages seperating each negative.

A friend who is a member of the Colorado Historial Society and I then became "the Historical Detectives." Going through the Denver Public Library's and the Historical Society's records and their store of photographs taken by professional portrait photographers around the early 1900's, we hit the jack pot. We discovered in the public records a photograph of a child standing on an elaborate carved bench with a background that matched many of those in the historic glass negatives. It was signed with the name Rinehart in the lower right corner. It was exciting to find the talented photographer and interesting to do further research on him.

I am grateful to have these negatives and to have the opportunity to give them a second life. I am sure Mr. Rinehart would be more than pleased. Each of these interesting faces takes us back to a moment in time and we get to see life from a different perspective.

These photographs are printed from a collection of over 300 original 4 by 5 and 5 by 7 inch glass plate negatives, from around the turn of the century. Each negative was carefully scanned, retouched and digitally printed on watercolor paper. I have hand tinted each one.
